Cayo Costa State Park is one of those Florida places that feels dramatically farther away than it actually is. The island has nine miles of largely undeveloped shoreline and is accessible only by boat or kayak.

Important 2026 access update

As of August 2026, Florida State Parks says the park is open daily from 8 a.m. to sunset for visitors arriving by private vessel. Ferry service and overnight accommodations remain unavailable, so this is not the same trip it was before the storm-related closures.

A personal watercraft can get you into the area, but whether you may land or beach a rental Jet Ski depends on park rules, local restrictions, conditions, and your rental agreement.
