Florida Resort Deals: 9 Costs That Can Make a “Cheap” Room Expensive

A Florida resort advertising a great nightly rate can still be the more expensive choice once the full weekend is priced out. Before booking, compare the total cost you will actually pay.

Start with nine common cost categories: resort fees, parking, pet fees, destination fees, taxes, mandatory valet, breakfast, beach or pool rentals, and the cost of leaving the property for meals or activities. A $199 room can stop looking like a deal surprisingly quickly when several of those stack together.

Also value what is included. Free parking, a strong pool area, walkable restaurants, included beach chairs, complimentary breakfast or useful on-site entertainment can justify a higher room rate because they replace costs you would otherwise incur.

For short Florida getaways, convenience has real monetary value. If one resort saves an hour of driving, eliminates parking hassles and gives you enough to do on property, paying $40 or $50 more per night may produce a better weekend and a better total value.
