Space 220 Bar vs. Prix-Fixe Restaurant: Why We Choose the Bar

I once had an actual Space 220 dinner reservation — and cancelled it so we could do the bar instead. After six bar visits, the reason is simple: I want the immersive Space 220 experience without being locked into a full prix-fixe meal when I would rather choose drinks, appetizers, sides and smaller plates.

Why I choose the bar

For me, the bar gives you the best part of Space 220: the feeling that you have left EPCOT and gone into orbit. You are still surrounded by the giant Earth views and the dark, futuristic dining room, but you can make the visit as light or indulgent as you want.

I usually spend about $100 on a visit with several drinks and small plates, and I often stay between one and three hours. That is not cheap, but it feels like a special Disney experience rather than just paying for food.

What I am actually paying for

The food is good, not fantastic. If Space 220 were a normal restaurant with the same food and no environment, I would not be nearly as excited about it. The value comes from the combination: solid food, excellent drinks and one of the most immersive rooms at Disney World.

The drink I keep ordering

The $18 Up All Night espresso martini is my repeat order. It has always come with a nitro-frozen mini ice cream sandwich garnish when I have ordered it, and it is exactly the kind of detail that makes the bar feel special.

Who should choose the full restaurant instead?

If you want a structured sit-down dinner and would rather have the entire meal planned for you, the restaurant may make more sense. I have not personally eaten the prix-fixe meal, so I would not rate the food value of that option from experience.

Who should choose the bar?

Choose the bar if your priority is the Space 220 atmosphere and you want flexibility. That is especially true for adults, couples, frequent EPCOT visitors, or anyone who would rather spend the same budget on a few drinks and shareable plates.

The verdict

For us, the bar wins. We get the same core immersive experience, we can order what we actually want, and the visit feels more spontaneous. Space 220 itself is a must-do; the bar is the way I personally recommend doing it.
